SAILOR SWIFT - 400 YEARS OF SONG

Sat 21 March 2026 – 8:00pm

Ramsey Room Session
(Concert Formation)

“Not only original…But a revelation!” The Guardian

“This new show of Pete Morton’s is a tour de force, it is honestly a revelation, and a real joy, to see a performer at the top of his already deeply impressive game.

The premise of the show is that the friendly ghost of a sailor haunts an old pub, meeting and talking with people through the centuries, the famous and infamous, observing the changing world with a smile and a quick wit, singing popular songs from times gone by.

A happy mixture of music hall, pantomime, standup comedy, rowdy back room folk clubs, with moments of utter beauty and breathtaking audacity, it is a unique experience. It’s full of laughter, singalongs, history, poetry, philosophy and life affirming fun. It’s one of the very best things I’ve ever seen.

The audience were with him from the start, and their laughing, singing, clapping and foot stamping filled the hall. It was a mesmerising performance, a non stop cavalcade of vignettes and quips. I was left in awe of Pete’s command of the huge amount of material the show contains, just one person with a guitar and a voice, keeping the carnival vibrantly alive for us all.” – Pete Kenny

Pete Morton is a singer and entertainer who is often referred to as an old time troubadour. He delivers an unruly freewheeling mix of storytelling, comedy and song that weaves its way around the folk tradition. His current show ‘The Ghost of a Sailor’s Talking Blues’ is a joyful ramble through time (not necessarily in the right order), in the style of the talking blues, as well as unleashing popular singalong chorus from the last 400 years.

Pete is known for his songwriting skills. He has recorded a wealth of material over the years.

His most famous song ‘Another Train’ has been performed and recorded by various artists. Here is Sally Barker’s version.

Originally from Leicester, England, Pete discovered the acoustic music scene at 16, and has been on the never-ending tour internationally ever since. With his powerful, euphonious voice storytelling and compelling stage presence he continues his merry niche, singing songs and entertaining with a funloving and approachable style.
